Robin Good recently reviewed the new version of GoToMeeting -- version 4. The new version comes with some a couple of significant new features like Mac compatibility and VoIP support. Looks like GoToMeeting has been carefully watching Skype and Yugma in their rear view mirror. Skype provides free and low cost VoIP for Windows, Mac, and Linux) and Yugma provides free and low cost desktop sharing tool for Mac, Windows, and Linux.
I've been testing out Mozy's remote backup service for the last few weeks. Works great! I've been traveling quite a bit lately and wanted to have a way to back up my files without having to worry about remembering to do it. With Mozy, I just set it up, selected the folders to back up, and left it alone. I highly recommend Mozy for those of you on the go. Give it a try at www.mozy.com. You can back up 2G for free, works on Mac and PC, and upgrade to unlimited backups for a few bucks a month.
At Web 2.0 Expo this week? Stop by booth #640 and get a demo of the new Yugma (Version 3). It's better than ever. Persistent, always one, super easy to use. It's way more than just simple desktop sharing. As described in their YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pe9qU3H3LJk), it defines a new and easier way to get things done over the web -- call it "fluid collaboration."
It's really like two products in one. On one hand you can use it to present to people anywhere anytime without and need for a download. On the other hand, if you want to collaboration fully, as if everyone was working together around the same PC, then you download the java app. Runs on WIndows, Mac and Linux.

VoIP-NEWS' Jim Higdon published a list of the five best Extras for Skype .
- Yugma Skype
- Zimbra Inc./Skype Mashup
- Skype on PSP (PlayStation Portable)
- Skylook
- Apple TV Skype Plug-In
Regarding Yugma, he had this to say:
Yugma Skype: Desktop collaboration — pioneered by WebEx Communications — has long been a goal of the broadband age. This type of technology attempts to seamlessly re-create the conference room on users’ desktops, complete with IM (instant messaging), voice, video, a whiteboard, file sharing and more. Several such Skype add-ons have appeared recently, including Convenos and IBM Lotus Sametime Unyte. But these applications were only for the boardroom squares using PCs. No Mac or Linux machines at the meeting, thank you. Thankfully, Yugma Inc. realized that when you cut out the quirky Mac users from the design department and the quirky Linux users from the IT department, suddenly the squares from sales and accounting don’t have much to talk about. So, the company rolled out its Yugma Skype Edition application — the first truly operating-system-agnostic collaboration tool available as a Skype Extra. Oh, and the add-on is Skype Certified, too. You can read more about Yugma Skype Edition in this article.

YUGMA COLLABORATION TOOL NOW AVAILABLE ON
SKYPE EXTRAS AND OFFERS INTEGRATION WITH
SKYPE CALLING FEATURES
MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, SEPTEMBER 12, 2007 – Yugma ™ today announced the launch of their Yugma Skype Edition. The Yugma Skype Edition builds upon Skype's offering by adding real time collaboration and desktop sharing functionality. Yugma has integrated the new functionality in a way that makes it extremely easy for existing Skype users. Once Yugma Skype Edition in installed, simply invite a friend or colleague from your existing Skype contact list, Yugma opens automatically, and sharing begins.
"We wanted to build upon Skype's legendary ease of use," said Karel Lukas, COO of Yugma. "Skype makes it easy for people to stay in constant contact and to communicate with one another spontaneously. We believe collaboration needs to move in the same direction, which is why it was natural for Yugma and Skype to come together.”
“It’s as simple as clicking ‘Start Sharing’ in the Yugma window and your friend can see your entire desktop. Press another button in the window and you can swap the sharing power to them… so users of Windows and Mac can share desktops with each other!” wrote Caitlin of Skype in last week’s Skype Developer Program Newsletter.
"Yugma Skype opens-up the door to contextual, just-in-time collaboration, making it possible for any existing Skype user to start screen-sharing, live annotating or giving remote control of the screen to anyone in a few mouse clicks. What's more impressive is that Yugma for Skype supports up to ten concurrent users and is absolutely free, " said Robin Good, Chief Editor of Master New Media.
Yugma is taking a different approach to collaboration. While the rest of the space is meeting-centric and focused on structured collaboration, Yugma is beginning to change course and take their service in a new direction, taking Yugma beyond the limits of meeting-centric structured collaboration.
Yugma Skype Edition is available for download for Skype users in the Skype Extras section at http://extras.skype.com, or directly from the Yugma website, at www.yugma.com/yugmaskype .
Yugma will hold a live news conference later today to provide a demonstration of the Yugma Skype Edition and to take questions.

Yugma just recently announced their Developer Zone. You can find it at http://www.yugma.com/developers. Over the last six months, they received so many requests about how best
to embed Yugma into applications, websites, blogs, emails and
application mashups. The good news is that its actually really easy to
embed Yugma anywhere you want. You can use the new Yugma Developer Zone
to create a lot of really cool and useful things like:
- add instant real-time collaboration to any application, website, etc. for free
- embed recorded visual demo's, recorded using Yugma's recording/broadcast feature
- embed "yugma me now" type buttons and widgets that are preprogrammed with specific session ids
- create branded and personalized Yugma widgets
- create co-branded affiliate registration pages -- to make extra money
This
looks like an easy way for developers to enhance their apps. Imagine real-time collaboration on any app, any platform (windows, mac, linux). That's pretty cool!
